Indian customs is stricter than most EU countries, but predictable if you follow four rules.
Rule 1: Describe items specifically
“3 used cotton shirts” clears in minutes. “Clothes” gets held for questions.
Rule 2: Declare realistic values
Used goods are worth 20–40% of their new price. Don’t under-declare (illegal) or over-declare (higher duties).
Rule 3: Personal effects allowance
Used household items shipped back home usually clear as unaccompanied baggage. The allowance depends on your travel history — chat with us if unsure.
Rule 4: Avoid restricted items
See Prohibited Items. One bottle of shampoo can hold up an entire shipment for a week.
